Kurumba Blues… Literally! – Part 1

“I want to live by the ocean but also in the forest but also in the mountains but also in a big city but also in the countryside, you feel me.”

Hey everybody! I’m finally back with a blog post… this is quite exciting for me as this is my first ever post actually writing about something! It’s been nearly one year since we went on our honeymoon to the Maldives and I hadn’t taken to the blogging world then, but I have now and it would be a shame not to write about our wonderful experience.

So why Maldives? Well, why not? I’m sure Maldives is on the wishlist for so many people… its beautiful blue ocean and white sandy beaches makes it the perfect getaway for anyone looking for a few days away just to themselves. The hubby and I actually booked our honeymoon together after our wedding was over. We had a few places in mind but the beauty of Maldives really made it our top choice! Now who couldn’t do with some relaxation on the beach doing nothing, after a week long of wedding functions? Not only that we were looking for a quick getaway and Maldives didn’t require my hubby (who is a Pakistani national) to get a visa, which saved us time, so that definitely made this the perfect choice.

Now the big question was where do we stay in the Maldives? There are so many islands to choose from, which can get a bit overwhelming! To narrow down the options I went on booking.com put in a few filters that I knew we wanted such as: 5 star rating, good reviews and breakfast included; oh and of course sort by lowest to highest price! After analysing all the options that came up, reading so many reviews, looking through picture after picture we finally decided on Kurumba! It was a 5 star resort with brilliant reviews and ratings, great price and it was only about a 10 minute transfer by speedboat from Male Airport, which was just what we wanted! So we booked our room on booking.com got our Qatar Airways flights sorted on cheapflights.com and we were good excited to go!

Kurumba Maldives was the first resort to open in the Maldives in 1972.

The Journey

So we caught our Qatar Airways flight at 3:40 am (the kind of time where you’re just not sure if you can get some sleep before or not… well we didn’t) from Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore. First stop was Doha before we caught our transit flight to Male Airport! We kept looking at the maps they have on the flight and we could see Maldives just south of Pakistan, but we went all the way to the left to Doha and then all the way back down to Maldives… so much longer than if we just went ‘straight down’ as we kept saying. But, unfortunately there are no direct flights from Pakistan to Maldives so we had to bear with this. But I’d just like to say this was our first time travelling with Qatar Airways and we loved the experience.

Once we reached Male Airport and got through all the formalities we were greeted by a couple of people from Kurumba who were ready to transfer us to our resort. They took our bags from us, so we had no hassle of them, and we were taken outside the airport where our speedboat was waiting for us. We had the option of sitting inside or on the top deck, but with that blue ocean we were already mesmerised with, who wouldn’t want to sit at the top and take it all in.

Vroom vroom! Well not exactly, but how do you describe a speedboat sound?

This was it… we were here!

We were welcomed, upon arrival at Kurumba, by a lovely young lady who took us to the reception and provided us with wet towels to freshen up (they smelt of coconuts… so good!) and coconut sorbet which was absolutely divine!

Welcomed with the most heavenly coconut sorbet ever… it was amazing!

Once we were given all the important details and had indulged our coconut sorbets we were taken to our rooms on an electric cart. We were provided with information on all the things we passed by as we were taking it all in.

The Room

We arrived at our deluxe room, where our bags (which we had completely forgotten about) were already present. The room was a great size and contained everything we needed: locker, iron, hairdryer, toiletries, coffee maker, TV and other essentials.

This note was on our bed on arrival, which was such a nice gesture… more on this later.

You would think having not slept the night before and having travelled so many hours we would want to have a little lie in… but no! Seeing this stunning resort took all our tiredness away and we were straight out to explore the resort just before sunset and right into the night.

Taking it all in at the end of day one… we were still in awe!

The resort isn’t very big (420 square metres to be precise) and we more or less explored the whole island on day 1 itself; but there’s a lot more to share with you all. I began writing this blog not realising how long it will turn out to be. So, I’ll leave you mesmerised with the beauty of Kurumba till this point and will be back with Part 2 with more details on the buffet breakfast, food available, the entertainment on the island and other activities that you can take part in at Kurumba! Hope you enjoyed the read and I’ll be back again soon with the rest. If there’s anything in specific you want to know about Kurumba, do let me know in the comment section below or on my Instagram post @kiiyaaaa and I’ll try and include it in the next part.

Lots of smiles,

Kiiyaaaa
